Anneke Bagerman

Tulpen uit Markenesse 1

Anneke Bagerman was born on 11-10-1951 in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands and now resides in Hattem.
In 1993 she graduated from the art academy in Kampen as a painter. After her studies she retreated to her atelier to explore the angles of approach she learned during her studies even further.
Besides her work as a visual artist she is also employed as an art teacher.
Starting from the year 2000 she has mostly been with oil paint on canvas. The themes she uses mostly have something to do with nature.

For example the paintings from the series “Tulips from Marknesse”, where she was inspired by the colors of the endless tulip fields of Holland. By using bright colors she wants to show that every combination of colors can be beautiful. She paints a tulip in a way that the flower was lighted from the inside and shows you a view in its own rich colorful world.

The paintings of the “Poppy’s in the grass are part of the series “Pieces of the world” where she tries to show us that a simple piece of nature can be just as fascinating as a beautiful sunset or other more spectacular subjects.

In “Drowned sand” and “Border of land and water” she wants to show us that sand, water and the reflection of sunlight can become an interesting image.

The somniferum is a flower that is not only beautiful, but also a subject of discussion all over the world.
Ellen van Baren

evb11.jpg

Silence, quiet, no movement.
Poetry, dreamy images.

My work is figurative and sensitive, but not realistic.
I aim for strong images. To express with as little as possible as much as possible.
By painting lines on a transparent background,( foundation) the image emerges. Because I use neither shadow nor perspective the picture is flat. I complete the painting by putting in colour and a few highlights.

Often people tell me that my paintings show an eastern influence, that they have a Japanese atmosphere. I am not conscious of this but it is true that I love the simplicity and clarity of Japanese art .That is why it is such a wonderful opportunity to have been invited for an exposition in Nagasaki, Japan .

1945 Born in Halsteren, the Netherlands
Father, Michel van Baren. Mother, Maria Meuwissen.

I grew up in a big house with 4 brothers and 3 sisters. We had an enormous garden with trees, flowers and animals. For me it was paradise.
After completing my secondary school, I went to Rome for a year. A course in art history and also the first painting lessons to prepare for the art academy.

1962-1966 Art academy in Arnhem,The Netherlands, painting department
1966 Marriage to Wouter Klootwijk. Lodewijk is born.
1972 Teun is born.

In my studio in the garden on the IJsselmeer and later in Edam.I often painted the reflexion of water and people seated at tables.
I exhibited in Edam , and surrounding villages, including Marken., Purmerend and de Rijp

1987. Departure for France with Geert Jan Jansen, painter and art dealer. We lived in Paris and a variety of other places , including 3 castles in Chavannes, Orleans and Linazay..

I painted scenes from my life, objects and the people surrounding me. I was inspired by the
large high rooms of the castles, with people sitting at long tables with children and dogs, the views from the high windows on the land with enormous chestnuts, oak trees, white cows and geese underneath.

1997 Back to The Netherlands , Groningen,

A series of drawings on blue paper with as subject; my room looking on the Noordzeekanaal where big freighters and coasters , pulled by small tugging boats went by. Also drawings with flowers and still lives.

1998 Exhibition in Meppel, Schouwburg Ogterop.

1999 Departure for Belgium, Antwerp.

After her graduation at the Amsterdam Art Academy in 1999, Yvonne Boelens (1976) developed her own colourful abstract style of painting. She uses different techniques and materials and combines acrylics with everything that comes at hand, such as sand, paper, chalk, and plaster. The several layers of paint and material emerge depth and a certain tension.

Being very ambitious, courageous and energetic Yvonne Boelens decided to start her own gallery. In September 2004 ‘Galerie Buuf’ opened its doors in the JordaankwARTier, the vivid and most famous neighbourhood of Amsterdam.
Yvonne Boelens is well known for her lively and dynamic way of presenting works of art and leading creative workshops, including painting and life-drawing.

Feel free to visit artist, gallery-owner and art-teacher Yvonne Boelens in her gallery!

Mario Keglevic

MARIO KEGLEVIC 1963 Zagreb Croatia
artist

Mario was 10 years old when he got his first oil paints and started to paint. In 1993 he left to Australia during the conflict in Yugoslavia. After settling down in Perth, Mario met his forthcoming art teacher, Sarah McNamara who saw his work and encouraged him to study further art. Mario finished his studies in art and desing and had several exhibitions in Australia (1995-2000). During the studies in art, one of Mario’s inspirational artists was Pieter Bruegel, and as a result from this Mario moved to live and work in Amsterdam after returning to Europe in 2000. Mario Keglevic paints memories of his childhood, mainly from the countryside where he used to go to visit his uncle during the school summer holidays. Mario has captured the landscapes, villages and people with warm and balanced colours making his paintings to radiate with peace and harmony.

BRIGITTE MEUWISSEN

Photography plays an important role in society, catching our eye in magazines, advertising and books. It is a field that continues to shape and influence society through its vivid power to communicate. The power that photography has for me is the bringing home of landscapes, objects, characters and human emotions and experiences from distant lands. My curiosity has led me to travel extensively through Europe, North America and Asia. As a freelance photographer I have worked for different magazines, with different people and in different fields: architecture, fashion, portraits, theatre, studio work, weddings, children and landscapes. I taught young students the “Art of Seeing” and have given workshops, assisted photographers and attended numerous conferences. I am applying my traditional education in photography to techniques of digital image processing technologies. These technologies open unexplored vistas and possibilities in the field of photography from artistic, creative and commercial perspectives.
My walks through the streets and alleys of the world have been shown at exhibitions and galleries.
My photography has been exhibited at galleries and published in books, newspapers and magazines in Belgium, Holland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Canada and the United States.
The work I am showing is bringing harmony into my life, it’s somehow to honor the earth that we have, the mother of us all. Bringing unity and peace.

Mark Raven

Mark Raven
Dutch artist Mark Raven portrays his vision on his hometown:
Typically Amsterdam…

“Imaginative, seemingly uncomplicated, with powerful striking contrasts”.
That is probably the best way to describe the representations of Dutchman Mark Raven (1956). Since 1987 the self taught artist has been creating art, that almost always depicts some aspect of his hometown Amsterdam.
..My passion for this city is obviously related
to the fact that I was born here.
But the city’s atmosphere with its canals,
its decorative gables and its culture also
contributes to its inspirational character…”
Eager to get in touch with other cultures, as a young artist Mark used to travel around the world to broaden his vision, supporting himself by selling impressions of the cities he visited.
It was during these journeys that he learned to present his work in his own way, not solely depending on the art gallery circuit.

The idea that his art should be more visible and affordable made that the local authorities granted him permission to set up an art kiosk, located between internationally renowned institutions as the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
CONTRASTS

In his work Mark complements traditional graphic techniques, such as etching, with the possibilities of digital image manipulation,
thus balancing the contrast between classical and modern.
By translating the characteristics of the city into almost calligraphic symbols, a striking interpretation of Amsterdam is created.

As it has always been his aim to make his art visible and affordable, Mark now
operates both from his kiosk on the Museumplein and from his recently opened gallery
behind the Royal Palace, offering his extraordinary Amsterdam
impressions not only as original prints, but also presented on t-shirts, posters and postcards.

… typically Mark Raven.

Pim Stallmann and Tango

Born in Amsterdam in 1947, married for 35 years with Nineke. He worked as an ENT-surgeon in the city of Meppel until 2005.
Since 2001 a new theme appears in his paintings. Nineke and Pim became infected by the Argentine Tango. Observations and explications during workshops and lessons inspired him to make paintings with the Argentine Tango as main subject. They take lessons and workshops in De Wijk, Zwolle and Groningen, during holidays they dance in France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Russia and Buenos Aires. Recent paintings are more colourfull and stylized.

His paintings were exhibited in the AMC Amsterdam, Tangofabriek El Sur Antwerp, Treehouse Art Gallery Amsterdam, ArtHouse Meppel, Artitude Gallery Paris, Theatre Center de Meerpaal Dronten, Galerie&Co Hattem and Galerie Buuf Amsterdam.

JAPAN & THE TANGO
In 1920 Baron Tsunayoshi Megata came to Paris for a minor surgical operation. He stayed in Paris and frequented cabarets as El Garron and the Palermo. He became an excellent tangodanser.
He returned to his country in 1926, taking a lot of tango records with him.Baron Megata founded a dance academy for tango in Tokyo and so introduced the tango to Japan in 1927.
In 1930 he wrote a tango manual in Japanese. The first tango music was recorded in 1934 by the Tito Monpalace Tango Ensemble, directed by Taro Asano. The group’s records were wildly popular in Japan. Singers like Noriko Awaya also entertained the populace with “Japanese-style tango” in the late 1930s and early 1940s. After World War II, the popular band “Shinpei Hayakawa and Orquesta Tipica Tokio,” and the singer Ranko Fujisawa, who sang in Spanish, achieved fame.
A number of performances by famous Argentinian groups such as Orquesta Tipica led by Francisco Canaro ignited a tango boom in Japan. Edmundo Rivero was an Argentine tango singer and an icon in Japan, where he toured in 1968; he got to know many Japanese musicians and dancers, and wrote tangos such as “Arigato Japón” and “A lo Megata” (honoring baron Tsunayoshi “Tsunami” Megata). In 1982 the famous Astor Piazzolla played in Japan.
In de late 90’s the Japanese group Astorico (bandoneon, piano, double-bass, violin and singer) made a tour to Buenos Aires. Last year the famous Dutch tango orchestra Danny Malando with Dutch tangodancers Mariano and Cosima Diaz Campos made a tour in Japan.
Tango evenings were held at Garufa, in the old geisha quarter of Tokyo. Presently tangodancing is concentrated in Tokyo, where you can dance in more then 15 places, but milonga’s are also organised in Fujisawa, Hiroshima, Kanagawa, Kobe, Kyoto and Saitama.
